There are as many ways to remodel a kitchen cabinet as there are different types of cabinets themselves. Redoing or refinishing a kitchen cabinet is a completely viable option; it gives the home the personal touch, especially if finances are a bit tight. If money is no object than replacing them altogether may be the way to go. This article will be focusing on how to keep your existing cabinets and give them a whole new look.

The first step is removing the cabinets from the wall and floor if at all possible. If this is not an option it can still be done, there will just be a bit of leaning, crouching, stretching and kneeling on your part to get the job done properly. Removing all the hardware is next. All the hinges, handles, knobs and latches need to be removed. With a little time and care these can all be clean, polished and touched up but it is also a good time to replace these. They can be purchased is so many different types and styles that it boggles the mind. Take some time to make a trip to a local design or hardware store to really look through the options.

Depending on what the cabinetry is made of it is good to start off with a solvent to remove as much of the current surface as possible, be it paint or stain. Sand the surface down very thoroughly, evenly and smoothly just to the surface of the bare wood. Try to do this to the same degree on all the surfaces that will be being redone, cabinets, doors and drawers, this will give the kitchen a uniform look. Now the surfaces can be repainted or stained with a color or shade of the homeowner’s choosing.

Another great way to redo things is to alter what you do to the kitchen cabinet doors. Instead of staining them or repainting them, replace them with a glass face. A sliding shutter of glass on the face of the door creates a see through effect for beautiful display purposes. It also lends an illusion of a greater more spacious kitchen. For an added touch of elegance these glass doors can be etched, frosted or tinted with a variety of designs or colors. Here again the choices are myriad and it pays to do some research.

Money saved and the satisfaction of a job well done more than make kitchen cabinetry redoing something worth looking into.
